Two Pios Home Runs Not Enough Against Batavia

By Anthony La Bonté

BATAVIA, NY—Brett Baker and Jack Aylward’s home runs brought energy to the Elmira Pioneers bats but Batavia Muckdogs pitching was too strong in a 10-4 loss Friday, at Dwyer Stadium.

Baker hit his first home run of the year against Dean Hoshide in the fifth inning that gave the Pioneers a 3-3 tied ballgame, and Hoshide’s first earned run on the season.

Starting in the bottom of the fifth, however, the Muckdogs would score five unanswered runs before the top of the eighth had Aylward hit his third home run on the season to make it a 8-4 game in favor of Batavia.

Two more runs would score and the Muckdogs took home the win.

Landon Burch (2-1) started on the rubber, going just five innings before the six runs were scored and the bullpen was called. Lukas Rylander would throw two innings, William Nee would see three batters, and Trevor Reed would off the eighth.

The Pioneers are now 11-11 with their next games being a doubleheader at Historic Dunn Field, on July 4, against the Newark Pilots for “Free Hilliard Thundersticks Night”. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
