Sixteen Hits Provide Pioneers the Win in Newark

NEWARK, NY—A day with seven extra base hits brought the Elmira Pioneers to a dominant 17-7 victory in eight innings over the Newark Pilots Tuesday, at Colburn Park.
Jack Aylward would have the furthest hit ball of the contest, with a three-run home run over the left field wall in the first inning. Aylward would also have a double in the contest, alongside Nick Spaner, Brett Baker, Tyler Adamo and Alex Davis—who did so twice in the contest.
Aylward finished his day with four RBIs while Spaner was responsible for three RBIs of his own.
Brenden Hayes (3-1) began the day strong with five innings pitched where just one run would score for Newark. When the relief pitchers came in the sixth, the Pilots would score six more runs to make it a 9-7 ball game before the seventh and eighth innings saw eight score for Elmira.
The Pioneers improve to 11-9 on the season, the Pios next game is at Historic Dunn Field will be Thursday, July 2, against the Auburn Doubledays with a fireworks show after the game presented by Weis Markets. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
