Rapids Roll Over Pios, 9-1

Elmira came into their final six games hoping to continue riding a hot streak that would lead them to a playoff birth, but Friday night against the Watertown Rapids the Pioneers offense, which had been dominating as of late, dried up and the Pioneers scored only one run.

Perhaps more unfortunate for the Pios was the extreme lack of presence in the field. Seven official errors were committed with a couple more being forgiven by the stat keepers. Manager Matt Burch tried substitutions and pitching changes to try to solve the issues, but by that point it was too far gone. The Rapids pitching also showed dominance against Pioneers hitting which coming into the game every single batter one through nine had a hit in the previous game.

The Pioneers lone run came as Nathan Peng lead off the fourth inning with a walk, ahead of a Bryce Moskiewicz single, and a Brennen Dorighi reach on an error by the shortstop. When Kyle Richardson hit a fly ball out to centerfield to score the run from third. Though the Pios had runners on in almost every inning they were unable to cash in aside from that one instance.

Watertown utilized the errors in the field multiple times to cash in three times in three separate innings. Scoring three times in the second, third, and fifth inning the Pioneers couldn't get the breaks they needed to stop the momentum.

Elmira will be back in action tonight as they take on the second place Geneva Red Wings at 7:05pm at historic Dunn Field. Tonight is Coca-Cola night and we are giving away set two of the team trading card set! Get your tickets early by calling 607-734-2690!
