Pios Roll to 4th Straight Win

Elmira rolled into a Wednesday night matchup with the slumping Niagara Power on a three-game winning streak after downing Batavia a night ago by an 11-7 score. Sometimes at any point of the season, you may get a shocking addition or returnee and that's exactly the position the Pios found themselves in tonight. Jeff Mejia, the superb bat and amazingly quick and agile defender returned to the roster and got right into the starting lineup.

Andrew Drum tossed the baseball to Auburn University freshman Jack Sokol who's struggled with the aluminum to wood bat difference getting rung up for 9 earned runs over his first 2 starts prior to tonight. The Power went with Dylan Steen for his first start of the summer.

The first inning quickly raced Elmira on top when a couple of hits and pitching errors by Steen, combined with a Ben Schorr RBI single led to a 2-0 advantage.

Niagara got one back in the third thanks to a key RBI from Cole Gabrielson, cutting it back to a 2-1 Pios lead. It was however in the 4th and 6th when Elmira managed to crack it open though. Peter Theodorellis, Jeff Mejia, and South Trimble all came up with key RBI hits and they forced the hands of the home side. The Power put up a decent fight with 4 runs over the final 5 innings, but it just didn't match the clicking Elmira offense.

The 8-4 Pioneers are back at it tonight at 7:05pm vs the Jamestown Tarp Skunks at historic Dunn Field looking to stretch the win streak to five. Tickets are still available, so call the office now at 607-734-2690 and lock in yours to see the 2021 Elmira Pioneers in action.
