Pios Move into Tie for First with 17-4 Win over Jamestown

Elmira gained an off day yesterday courtesy of a rain postponed game vs Geneva. Coming off that tough loss in Jamestown on Friday by a 3-0 score, the Pios looked to again find success in a Tarps Skunks team they trailed by 1 game in the standings entering today.

Andrew Drum tossed the starter duty to Samford's Logan Jones for the third time this summer, and being as he had seen some early season ups & downs, he looked to right his own ship. Jordin Basile leaned on Brandon Demma who was making his first start of the season for a banged up rotation.

The visiting side cracked the board first jumping out to a 2-0 lead after just a half inning of play. Haiden Hunt doubled to start things off and came around to score via a couple errors, and wild pitches just as Luke Turner did.

The Pios stormed 9 runs to the sheet in the bottom of the third inning receiving RBI's from 6 different players. No hit may have been more clutch than Aaron Thomas's 1-2 bases clearing double to the gap in right center, as the lead was now 9-2.

Elmira combined for 8 more runs over the 5th and 6th innings, as 8 players picked up at least 1 RBI in the game. Despite Jamestown's last ditch effort with a 2 run Top of the 7th, the PGCBL mercy run rule was called into effect and the hometown side wrestled away a 17-4 win.

Your Elmira Pioneers are back in action tomorrow night in an exhibition up at Dwyer Stadium to take on the Batavia Muckdogs at 7:05pm. Catch all the action with Jon Kliment on Mixlr and YouTube.
