Pios Force Extras, Secure Win in 13

The Elmira Pioneers had struggled with Geneva all season long, but as of Sunday afternoon Elmira finally got that weight off their shoulders with a big 11-1 win in Geneva. Tuesday night at Dunn Field the Pios looked to keep a recent three game winning streak alive and beat the Red Wings for just the third time this season.

In a back and forth game that went not only through nine, but into extra innings. The Pios scored first in the third after Jeff Mejia reached base on a walk, advanced on a balk and then a single by Brody Moore drove him in. The Red Wings responded in the fifth with two runs, but Trae Harmon doubled in the bottom half to drive in Mejia again to tie the game back up.

The Red Wings took the lead in the eighth with a run coming across and it looked as though they would claim victory as they put the Pioneers to the edge with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a Bryce Moskiewicz singled to drive in Moore to tie the game.

The next few innings would go back and forth as the teams tried to score the final run, but neither side would be successful as Connor Takacs worked out for four innings to claim victory as in the bottom of the 13th, Mejia reached before Moore bunted moving Mejia to second, an intentional walk to Nathan Peng allowed Trae Harmon up to the plate. Harmon came through in the clutch driving a ball through the infield and allowing Mejia to come around and score.

The Pioneers are now in a tie for third place in the West and in a playoff spot for the moment. Elmira will be in action against Newark tomorrow night at 7:05 pm.
