Pios Fall to Batavia 10-1

Elmira had their first off day of the 2021 PGCBL season after playing four games in four days to kick off the summer, however, tonight served as the first game of a 22 games in 22 day stretch and the start of another home and home with Batavia.

After shaking off the bus legs and settling down inside Dwyer Stadium, the Pios jumped on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning. New addition to the roster Elmiilien Pitre singled to start the frame and was later driven in by a single up the middle off the bat of Siena product Chris Erickson to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

It was not a kind 4th, 5th, and 6th innings for Elmira pitchers. After starter Holden Wilder looked sharp over the first three innings, he surrendered 4th in the 4th to Batavia bats and was removed trailing 4-1 after 4. Tom Cattaneo and Zachary Byfield weren't having much luck over the next 2 innings as well, combining to surrender 6 hits and 6 runs to trail 10-1 with 3 innings remaining in the game.

Despite a late rally attempt, Elmira couldn't come up with any more trips around the diamond and dropped their second game of the season by a 10-1 score to move to 3-2 on the season.

The Pioneers are back at historic Dunn Field tomorrow night at 7:05pm to battle the Batavia Muckdogs to close out the home-and-home back-to-back. Secure your seats now by dialing (607) 734-2690 and come get a look at your 2021 Elmira Pioneers.
