Pios Drop Home Opener at 7-0

The Pioneers met up with the Batavia Muckdogs for their home opener in a back to back matchup that saw the two teams owned by Robbie Nichols face off.

The game started with both teams trying to find their footing, mostly by utilizing big arms right out of the gate. Both starters were impressive early holding each side to 0 hits in the first two innings. After a passed ball in the third Batavia was able to cut loose on the base paths and manufactured three runs in the third. Jack Sokol lasted one more inning for the Pioneers surrounding one more run before Elmira veteran Tom Cattaneo shut things down for two innings of relief.

The Muckdogs were able to confine the Pioneers hitters to just four hits throughout the game, but Elmira was unable to find any magic on the base paths.

The Pioneers ended up shutout as the Muckdogs tacked on three more in the top of the ninth to close things out.

The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow night in Batavia as they look for revenge against their newest divisional rival. Catch all the action on Youtube and Mixlr and don’t miss the Pioneers at home this Saturday and Sunday at Dunn Field!
