Pioneers Swept on Road Trip, Lose 7-4 In Geneva

The Pioneers came into the final game of the three game road trip Tuesday with hopes of rebounding after two brutal games on Sunday and Monday. Elmira faced off with Geneva again in a rematch from the season opener back on Friday, which the Pioneers won.

The first inning started with a bang as Preston Moore led off with a single followed up by 4 consecutive walks to drive him in. A Mason Ruhlman roundball would drive in a second run and the Pioneers looked to be off to a promising start.  Connor Takacs started his first game for the Pioneers and got things going very quickly with two quick outs. Unfortunately Brock Kauffman reached on an error before first baseman Trevor Rodgers blasted a 2 run shot over the right field wall to tie up the game.

The second inning saw more of the same from the Red Wings as they continued to pile on scoring three more runs in the bottom half. The Pioneers were able to respond for one in the third when Mason Ruhlman drove in Cam Redding. The bottom of the third saw Geneva regain the run they gave up in the top half.

The Red Wings scored one more time in the bottom of the fifth as Kevin Teschko was in the game, but would gain nothing more as they vaulted themselves out to a 7-3 lead. The Pioneers added one more run as Mason Ruhlman drove in his third run of the night knocking in Cam Redding in the top off the ninth but that would be all the Pios could get.

The Pioneers are back in action tonight at 7:05 pm from Dunn Field as they get set to take on the Saugerties Stallions for the first time this season. Call 607-734-2690 for tickets!
