Pioneers Score First but Cannot Finish Versus Auburn
By Anthony La Bonté
ELMIRA, NY—Brett Baker would cross home plate for the Elmira Pioneers to start the
game, however an 8-1 scoring run by the Auburn Doubledays would allow them to win
8-5 Friday at Dunn Field.
The first inning started with three batters getting walked for the Pioneers, and then a
fielder’s choice off the bat of Alex Davis led to the opening run.
Elmira would out-hit the Doubledays eleven to ten, with Baker, Brandon Doubek and
Jack Tubman all having multi-hit outings. Tubman went 3-4 in the contest with an RBI,
Doubek had two RBI.
Lucas Hail (0-3) started on the bump, throwing four innings, where he struck out two,
and was credited with four earned runs. Landen Burch would enter in from the bullpen,
throwing the final five, striking out seven batters while having two runs go past.
The Pioneers fall to 9-8 while their next game will be an inter-league game versus the
Buffalo Diesel, Saturday Jun. 27, for F.M. Howell & Company Night. For ticket
