PIONEERS RETURN TO DUNN FIELD FOR INTERLEAGUE PLAY AFTER LOSS TO JAMESTOWN

The three-game winning streak for the Pioneers ended on June 12th, in a tough 9-3 loss to the Jamestown Tarp Skunks.

After conceding a few runs to start, Ziv Gar (Molloy) recovered in the second and third innings by retiring six straight batters. His efforts weren’t enough, as the Pioneers would never tie the game, giving Gar his first loss of the season.

The Tarp Skunk’s Travis Perry was lights out, going perfect through 3.1 innings, before surrendering his first hit. He would only concede one run in a seven inning start to get his first win of the season.

After resting in the previous game, Joe Muzio (Eckerd) had a solid game in his return to the lineup, getting the only RBI for the Pioneers all day.

Kyle Chimielewski (Lafayette) also had a successful day, improving his on-base-percentage with two walks, and scoring off one of them.

Jonathan Haines (Washington and Jefferson) had another great bullpen outing, showing off his strength as a two-way player. He pitched the final two innings, just surrendering one run on two hits.

The Tarp Skunks improved to 5-3 after the victory (they won yesterday, and now stand at 6-3,) while the Pioneers fell to 3-6.

The Pioneers are seventh in the Western Division, due to the handicap of their 0-5 start. Jamestown is second in the division, having one more loss than the leading Batavia Muckdogs, who have a game in hand.

The Pioneers, rested after a day off, now face the Mansfield Destroyers in a interleague game today, June 14th. The Pioneers will have a rematch against the Tarp Skunks tomorrow, June 15th.
