Pioneers Outdueled by Outlaws 7-3

Elmira came in to Sunday afternoon's matchup with Oneonta having won all three of the previous meeting against the Outlaws. The Pios tried to find a way to keep the streak going as they came in after 4 straight victories in the past 4 days. Oneonta came in on a much different streak going just 2-8 in their last 10.

Success for the Pioneers has come along with quick starts and that was not the case tonight for Elmira. Despite a strong start from Kentucky  pitcher Brendan Koester, Oneonta got the scoreboard rolling as they would put up runs in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings. Koester would  pitch three full innings after giving up 5 runs despite having put up a strong first and second inning, the third inning saw four runs come across as the Outlaws found their bats and finally put runs on the board.

The Pios finally managed to reach the scoreboard in the fifth inning after they had multiple opportunities to score in the first couple of innings, but were unsuccessful in putting a run across the plate. Two runs came across in the fourth as Garrett Schultz and Nathan Berg both scored. Then in the fifth inning Garrett Schultz came across the plate again to close the gap down to 5-3. The high of scoring three runs was short lived however as the Baylin Moore came up in the bottom of the fifth and hit a home run to give the Outlaws their three run lead back.

The final run came across in the sixth as Reilly Hall came all the way around again as Matt Busher worked through three innings of his own allowing two runs on the scoreboard. Tom Cattaneo came in to finish off the game for the Pios throwing two innings and not allowing a run as the Pioneers were unable to find an answer to the scoring onslaught from the Outlaws.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow night as they head up to Newark to take on the Pilots at 7:05 pm. Then on Tuesday the Pios return to historic Dunn Field for a rematch with the Outlaws! Get your tickets now at 607-734-2690!
