Pioneers Drop Game Two of Series with Red Wings
By Anthony La Bonté
GENEVA, NY— Following a two-run homerun by Jack Aylward in the second inning, the
bats fall cold for the Elmira Pioneers Wednesday in a 10-2 loss to the Geneva Red
Wings at McDonough Park.
The homer from Aylward would be the start to second inning that threw the Pioneers off
their momentum, as in the bottom half of the inning Landen Burch would step onto the
rubber for his final inning of the contest. A pitch that was deemed a no-swing hit by pitch
led to an early exit of the ball game from Burch and Coach Andy Drum.
Kannon Van Duzer (1-1) would enter in relief, throwing four innings before Lukas
Rylander would finish the final two and two-thirds. Nine total runs would cross following
Burch’s departure with Geneva gaining a grand total of seventeen hits in the contest.
Offensively, eleven batters would be left on to end an inning, with two seeing bases
loaded for the Pios followed by the final out of the inning.
The next game for the Pioneers will be a home contest against the Auburn Doubledays
for “Military Appreciation Night & Mini Bat Giveaway Courtesy of Blaze Brockway
Contracting”, Friday, Jun. 26. For ticket information calling (607) 734-2690.
