By Anthony La Bonté

AUBURN, NY—A five run top of the seventh inning brought the Elmira Pioneers close to a seven-run comeback against the Auburn Doubledays, Thursday night, however the defense could not hold on as Auburn won 24-14 through eight.

The top of the seventh inning started with a Brandon Doubek double—his first of two on the day—that scored Jack Aylward. Then it was walks from Manny Essley, Tyler Adamo, Alex Davis and a Jack Tubman single that scored the other four runs to make the game 14-13 in favor of Auburn. However, as soon as the Pios were able to score the Doubledays fired back with six runs of their own while scoring four in the bottom of the eighth to walk it off.

Five pitchers would enter for the Pioneers in the contest: Lucas Hail (0-3), Lukas Rylander, Tobias Waldridge, Sam Watts, Hugh Cyhowski.

This was the highest scoring game of the season in the entirety of the PGCBL with 29 hits in total.

The next game for the Pioneers is Saturday Jun. 20, against the Olean Oilers at Historic Dunn Field for Kennedy Valve and Guaranteed win night. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
