PIONEERS COME BACK FROM DOWN THREE TO SECURE FIRST VICTORY

ELMIRA, NY—After giving up three runs in the top half of the first inning, the Elmira Pioneers were able to score fourteen unanswered runs to defeat the Olean Oilers 14-4, Thursday night, at Dunn Field.

Brenden Hayes began on the mound for the Pioneers, and after allowing three runs through the first three outs, the bats began to take life for Elmira. Seven baserunners would reach, with five scoring in the bottom half of the first. From that initial burst it would take two more innings to reach the 14-run score that followed, including a second inning that tied the runs recorded in the season to that point (7).

Tysan Gingerich batted in three of the runs off a triple that cleared off the bases. Meanwhile six other Pioneers would score an RBI, and Tyler Adamo held the basepath with three stolen bases.

Hayes pitched five of the seven innings, recording seven strikeouts. Sam Watts would enter in relief cleaning up the final six outs to earn the run rule victory.

This was the first game where the Pioneers reached the double digits in the hit column (11).

The Pioneers are now 1-2 on the season, following their victory over the newly added Oilers team to the West Division. The next contest at Dunn Field is Saturday, Jun. 6, against the Geneva Red Wings. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
