PIONEERS ANNOUNCE NEW ADDITION TO STAFF

Elmira is also pleased to welcome a new member of the team’s staff as Colby Smith joins the organization in the role of broadcaster/director of media relations. Smith is a 16-year-old junior at Edmeston Central School and was hired in May 2021 as the Elmira Junior Enforcers Broadcaster/Media Relations Director. Smith comes to the Pioneers with an abundance of experience in the business in a variety of sports. He is not unfamiliar working in the city of Elmira as not only did he spend the 2021 summer with the Pioneers in a broadcast/media relations intern role under Jon Kliment, but he also worked under Kliment as the FPHL Elmira Enforcers broadcast/media relations intern from September 2019 - May 2021. Colby also was the play-by-play broadcaster and media relations coordinator for the Binghamton Bulldogs of the American Basketball Association from September 2020 – April 2022 and has called many different sports at the Section IV high school level across the state as well as calling women’s hockey at Colgate University. His resume also includes a dozen games called in minor league baseball with teams such as the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs, Tri-City Valleycats, and Syracuse Mets. Besides working for the Junior Enforcers, Smith is also a part of the staff at NCAA Division 3 SUNY Delhi where he currently calls fall, winter, and spring sports for the Broncos.  His goal for the summer is to instantly connect with the community and has his sights set on providing a high-quality broadcast night in and night out for all to enjoy.
