Pioneers Announce All Star Coaching Staff Complete!

The Pioneers are proud to announce their staff for the 2019 campaign is complete as Manager/Head Coach Matt Burch and Assistant Andrew Drum will be retuning.

Matt Burch is returning as bench boss which is his ninth with the organization in total. Burch coached the organization to its sixth straight playoff appearance. Burch was a dominant pitcher for Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights and later starred for Virginia Commonwealth University. He was drafted in the first round by the Kansas City Royals in 1998.

“We’re excited to get back going. We worked really hard this summer and for us making the playoffs is an expectation not a goal. Every year we expect to compete for a championship.” Burch said. “Baseball is a fraternal game. Once we are all together for a couple days we all speak the same language and get on the same page. We try to streamline that here. For us it is important to expand our borders and develop relationships with college coaching staffs in order to give us the best quality players.”

Andrew Drum has served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons will return for a third consecutive year. Drum was a coach for Williamson High School in Tioga, PA and a hitting instructor in Corning, NY for the last 10 years.

When asked about coming back Drum said “I grew up in Elmira and watching baseball at Dunn Field and the fans expect to win games and win a championship every single year. It’s a huge expectation for me to be successful every single year.”
