Pioneers and Ironbacks split Doubleheader at Dunn Field

ELMIRA, NY—On Father’s Day, the Pioneers are able to split the doubleheader against the Niagara Ironbacks at Historic Dunn Field.

Game one saw the Ironbacks win 7-5, where Kevin Prosceo (0-1) got his first start of the season for the Pioneers. Prosceo went five and two thirds innings, where he was able to strike out seven batters but allowed six runs in the contest.

Tysan Gingerich was a part of three of Elmira’s runs in the contest with two hits. Nick Spaner played his first west division game of the season and went two for three with an RBI triple that sent home Gingerich.

Game two saw Brenden Hayes (2-0) on the bump, and alongside the offensive explosion of the Pioneers bats picked up the a 14-3 victory.

Hayes threw six innings while striking out six and allowing three runs. Within the six innings saw three innings retire the side in order. He was relieved in the seventh by Nolan Terwilliger—making his first appearance of the season—and got out of the game without any runs passing.

Tyler Adamo would put on an impressive six RBI game alongside being responsible for two runs, one of which came from a triple. The triples came by Jayln Tidwell, as well, being one of three players (Brett Baker and Alex Davis) to have two RBI in the latter half of the double header.

The Elmira Pioneers improve to 8-6 on the season, with an opportunity to continue building their record at home Tuesday, Jun. 23, against the Geneva Red Wings for Chemung Canal Trust Night. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
