Final Additions Ahead of Opening Day

The Pioneers season begins tomorrow and the roster is finally completed as the team announces their final four signings. Outfielder Basiel Williams from Mississippi State, Catcher Bryce Moskiewicz, Infielder Mason Ruhlman, and Pitcher Steven Rossi round out the roster for the 2019 Elmira Pioneers.


Williams is a 6’3, 180 lbs freshman outfielder from Mississippi State by way of Hammond, LA. Basiel lettered twice for head coach Johnny Brechtel at Ponchatoula High School and was named team captain as a junior and senior. Williams earned second-team All-America honors from Perfect Game as a senior and was tabbed first-team Underclass All-American by Perfect Game as a junior being named to the Perfect Game Underclass World Championships All-Tournament Team during the fall of his junior season. Williams earned all-state and all-district honors as a senior and also lettered twice in football.


Moskiewicz is a 5’9, 190 lbs freshman catcher from University of Pittsburgh by way of La Grange, IL. Bryce Played baseball for Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Ill. Where he was 1st Team All-Area, All-Conference Team, and All-Conference Academic senior year. Moskiewicz was a member of the White Sox Elite from 2016-2018 and also played football. Bryce was commended National Merit Scholar and an honor roll recipient.


Ruhlman is a 5’10 junior infielder from University of Minnesota Crookston by way of Algonac, Mi. Mason returns for his second year with the Pioneers and played a big part of the success of the team last year. Ruhlman hit 2 triples and 4 home runs for the Soaring Eagles this season. Ruhlman batted .306 last season in Elmira with 2 home runs and 3 doubles and had a .976 fielding percentage.


Rossi is a 6’1, 200 lbs freshman pitcher from Suffolk by way of Corning, NY. This season Steven put together a scoreless, two-hit, four-walk, eight-strikeout effort over 6.0 innings in his collegiate debut, a 6-0 shutout of Wentworth on March 9 giving him GNAC Rookie of the Week honors. Rossi also recorded the win in game two versus Norwich, allowing three runs (one earned), three hits, three walks with one strikeout in 4.2 innings of work on March 24. During his time at Corning Painted Post High, Steven was a letter winner in Baseball and captained the team as a senior and a member of National Honor Society.


“The Pioneers have a well-rounded roster and one we believe is ready to compete. Basiel, Bryce, Mason, and Steven all bring unique abilities to our team and we look forward to seeing those play out this season..” Coach Matt Burch said.
