Elmira Pioneers Sweep Week 5 Awards

ELMIRA, NY— Brenden Hayes and Brett Baker named as pitcher and player of the week for the West Division, Monday morning.

Hayes pitched twice in the past week, both times against Newark, where he threw twelve innings of one run baseball. Including the complete game shutout on July 4 that brought the Pioneers to a 5-0 victory. 2-0 through the stretch he punched out eighteen batters.

Baker got his first home run of the season in Batavia, but also racked together three doubles, a triple, five RBIs and six runs scored with a hit in every game he played in this past week.

The Pioneers look to have their players of the week correct the ship since they fell to 12-13 Sunday—the first time below .500 since June 7 where they lost to the Niagara Ironbacks—when they travel to Olean Wednesday, July 8, for a game with the Oilers.
