Elmira Pioneers Announce Returning of Two Members

The Pioneers are proud to announce two members of their 2019 playoff qualifying team have returned for another summer at Dunn Field as pitcher Tom Cattaneo and catcher Trevor Henneman with return to a Pioneers uniform for 2021.

Cattaneo, comes back to the Pioneers from Northern Essex Community College, where he has been playing under former Pioneers teammates father Jeff Mejia. Tom came in midway through the 2019 season and became a heavily relied upon arm for manager Matt Burch. Cattaneo finished with a 2-1 record after spending most of the season as a reliver he threw 24.2 innings allowing less than half a run an inning and holding opponents below a .300 average against. Tom started the Pioneers only playoff game and left the game with a lead in 2019.

Henneman is a junior out of Canisius College from Corning, NY. Trevor played in 30 games in 2019 with a .277 batting average and 10 RBI’s. Henneman brings a lot of versatility as well, though he is notably a catcher at Canisius he played 14 games at first and 8 games in the outfield for Elmira in 2019. Trevor’s .337 OBP was top 10 on the roster and his ability to produce at the plate was invaluable to the team in their chase for a playoff spot. Henneman is returning for the second straight PGCBL season and as a hometown player he brings an abundance to the locker room in terms of veteran leadership and local familiarity.

“Any time you can get players to return to the roster it adds veteran leadership and can help prepare the other players in the locker room for the upcoming season. Tom and Trevor are two solid players that we are proud to welcome back to the Pioneers.” Coach Matt Burch said.
