Elmira Bats Stay Hot in Loss to Auburn

By Anthony La Bonté

ELMIRA, NY—Eleven batters would get on via hit for the Elmira Pioneers, but it would not be enough, Thursday, against the Auburn Doubledays in a 14-6 loss at Historic Dunn Field.

Four players—Caleb Delaney, Nick Spaner, Brett Baker, and Tysan Gingerich—would have multi-hit days. Gingerich would put on two doubles while Baker set the tone with a double and triple in four at-bats. However, the efforts would only allow for six runs in the entire game, a number that Auburn would score in the fifth inning alone.

Lucas Hail (0-4) started the game and went through 4.2 innings pitched where he allowed eight runs (seven earned), in the process striking out seven. Then three other pitchers—Zachary Nelson, Hugh Cyhowski, and Thomas Cheplick—would come from the bullpen to finish the game off.

The Doubledays would finish the day with thirteen hits of their own.

The next game for the Pioneers will be on the road against the Batavia Muckdogs, Friday July 3. The next home games for the Elmira Pioneers is a doubleheader on July 4 against the Newark Pilots for “Free Hilliard Thundersticks Night”. For ticket information call (607) 734-2690.
