Elmira, N.Y. — The Elmira Pioneers are excited to announce the signing of three players from the University of Kentucky. All three players are freshman, Mason Hazelwood, Jimmy Ramsey and Tanner Johnson will all be suiting it up for the Pioneers this summer.

Hazelwood, a 6’5”, 200-pound, left handed pitcher, hails from Salvisa, Kentucky. Mason was a two time All-State selection. He has really impressed his coaches and has had 13 appearances this spring with 12 strikeouts in 11 innings. He throws in the low 90’s and will step right in to play an important role in the Pioneers starting rotation.

Ramsey, a 6’7”, 240-pound, right handed pitcher is from Minnetonka, Minnesota. Jimmy is a big physical kid who throws hard (low 90’s) and has a big time breaking ball. He has had 19 appearances this spring with 27strikeouts in just 24 innings. Ramsey is projected to be a key member of the starting rotation for the Pio’s this summer.

Johnson is a 6’2”, 200-pound, catcher/outfielder from Crestwood, Kentucky. Tanner was a two-time All-State selection and is an outstanding athlete. Tanner has been red-shirted this spring due to Kentucky having two upper class catchers who will both be drafted this summer including former Pioneers star catcher Troy Squires. Tanner will see a lot of time behind the plate for the Pio’s this summer and will be a great addition to the team.

“We are really excited to have three quality players from Kentucky (currently ranked 14th in the nation), they will be great additions to the Pioneers stated Manager Matt Burch.
