ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira Pioneers(4-4) lost to the Geneva Red Wings(5-2) on Saturday night, as the Red Wings went wire-to-wire in their victory over the Pioneers.
Starting in the first, Joseph Tassin(Bossier Parish C.C.) laced a two-out two-RBI single to left that gave the Red Wings a lead they would never relinquish.
In the third frame, Geneva would double their advantage. An RBI groundout from Langston Livingston(Saint Joseph’s) pushed across run number three and a bases loaded walk from Ben Terwilliger(Maine) brought home the fourth run.
Geneva would take complete control of the ballgame in the 4th however. The Red Wings plated three runs to increase their lead to seven thanks to a bases loaded walk to Jake Lyle(Volunteer State C.C) and Tassin’s second 2-RBI single of the game.
Seven runs was more than enough for Geneva’s starter Brian Reed(RIT). Reed shutdown the Pioneers as he worked seven scoreless frames and racked up 12 strikeouts including a stretch when he struck out six consecutive Elmira Hitters. Reed would pick up the win for Geneva and improve to 1-0 in the process.
The starter for the Pioneers, Alvin Vega(Canisius) only last one inning as he yielded two runs on two hits and a walk. He absorbs the loss and falls to 1-1.
The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow evening, Sunday, June 11th, at 5:05 at Colburn Park against the Newark Pilots. The Pioneers will return to Dunn Field on Tuesday to face Onondaga.
