Pioneers Sign Four More Players for 2017
Elmira, N.Y. – The Elmira Pioneers have signed four more players to the initial roster for the 2017 season. RHP TJ Stuart (Manhattan), RHP Bryce Zaparzynski (Mansfield), OF Colton Evans (UC Davis), and C Casey Oliver (Louisiana-Monroe) will all be coming to Elmira this summer to suit it up for the Pioneers.
Joining the pitching staff will be 6’2, 195-pound freshman TJ Stuart from Manhattan. The Milford, Connecticut native has appeared in 15 games for Manhattan, totaling 16.2 innings with 20 strikeouts and a 4.86 ERA. Prior to coming to Manhattan, Stuart attended Joseph A. Foran High School where he lettered three times in baseball and was an All-State Honorable Mention as a senior.
Also being added to the pitching staff will be freshman RHP Bryce Zaparzynski. The 6’0, 175-pound Mansfield redshirt-freshman has tossed 17.1 innings this season, picking up 2 wins and striking out 15 batters.
The Pioneers are also excited to announce the signing of 5’8, 160-pound UC-Davis freshman Colton Evans. While at Pitman High School, Evans was a three year letter winner and a two-time All-Central California Conference first team selection. Evans hit .378 in 30 games as a junior, scoring 30 runs and driving in 23 to go along with a .436 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. Evans also hit a prep best .405 with a .527 on-base percentage as a sophomore over 25 games, scoring 31 more runs and driving in 11, while finishing 10-for-11 in steals.
Also joining the Pioneers 2017 roster will be Louisiana-Monroe junior Casey Oliver. The 5’9, 175-pound right handed hitter came to Louisiana-Monroe after a season at McHenry County College, where he helped lead the Scots to a seventh place finish in the NJCAA Division II World Series. Oliver finished with a .426 batting average with a .518 on-base percentage, four home runs and 28 RBI in 68 at bats.
“These four are excellent additions to our roster. Colton has excellent speed and will be exciting to watch on the bases. TJ and Bryce will be key additions to our pitching staff and Casey will bring experience to key position,” said Pioneers manager Brian Hill.
The Pioneers are excited to get the 2017 season underway!
