Elmira, N.Y. — The Elmira Pioneers are excited to announce the signing of three players from the University of Kentucky. Sophomores Jake Hamilton and Josh Smith, as well as freshman Brayden Combs, will all be suiting it up for the Pioneers this summer.

Hamilton, a 5’10, 190-pound, left handed pitcher, hails from Racoon, Kentucky. At Pikeville High School, Hamilton set multiple school records including career strikeouts with 490 and lowest single season ERA at 0.96. For his efforts, Hamilton was named second-team all-state. For the upcoming summer, Hamilton will be looked upon to be a member of the Pio’s starting rotation.

Smith, a 6’5, 230-pound, left handed hurler comes from Saline, Michigan. Prior to joining the Kentucky baseball program, Smith underwent Tommy John surgery rendering him unable to pitch during his senior year of high school. Prior to the surgery, Smith had been dominant during his junior year pitching to a pristine 5-0 record with a 0.72 ERA and a staggering 62 strikeouts in just 28 innings. Smith is projected to be a key member of the back end of the bullpen for the Pio’s.

Combs, a 6’5, 240-pound, first baseman is expected to spend a lot of time at first base this summer for the Pio’s while also anchoring the middle of the lineup. The Fort Mitchell, Kentucky native was a first-team all-state selection while also leading his high school to back to back state championships.

We are really excited to have three quality players from Kentucky (currently ranked 8th in the nation) including two lefty pitchers and a power hitting first baseman,” said Pio’s manager Brian Hill.
