Elmira Pioneers Announce 2017 Coaching Staff
Elmira, N.Y. — The Elmira Pioneers have finalized the coaching staff for the 2017 season. For the upcoming campaign, Brian Hill will take the reins as manager after former manager Matt Burch stepped down. Hill, an assistant coach the past four years under Burch, will get his first opportunity to take the reins of a team in the PGCBL.
Concerning the new position, Hill stated, “I am very excited about the opportunity to manage the Elmira Pioneers. Elmira has a tremendous baseball tradition and is the best place in the country to coach summer baseball.” In addition to his managerial duties, Hill will also man the 3rd base coaches’ box and work with pitchers.
Making the transition with Hill will be Archie McNelis, who was also a part of the staff last year. For the 2017 campaign McNelis will be the 1st base coach and also work with the outfielders.
Rounding out the staff will be assistant coaches Andrew Drum and Mike Boulas. Drum will primarily focus on working with the infielders and catchers while Boulas will be working with the pitchers and be the bullpen coach.
Although no longer manager, Matt Burch will stay involved with the Pioneers acting as a team advisor and consultant.
