Elmira, NY — The Elmira Pioneers are happy to announce the hiring of Sam Jellinek as Broadcaster and Director of Media Relations for the upcoming season. Last summer, Jellinek interned with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League. There Jellinek was the director and producer of all 36 of the team’s webcasts, hosted the team’s highlight show, Rafters Roundup, and co-hosted both Rafters Pregame and Rafters postgame on WFHR 1320.

During the 2017 season, Jellinek will call all 50 of the Pioneers games this summer. In addition to broadcasting the games, Jellinek will act as Director of Media Relations where he will help craft press releases and game previews and recaps.

Currently a junior at Syracuse University, Jellinek is  studying broadcast journalism and history. At Syracuse, Jellinek has previously broadcasted Syracuse field hockey and men’s soccer for Cuse.TV. In addition to his broadcasting duties at school, Jellinek is also a member of the Syracuse Club Golf team where he is currently treasurer.

“We are very pleased to welcome Sam to the Pioneers family for this upcoming summer. His experience working in summer collegiate baseball is a huge plus for us and we think he will be somebody that fans will really enjoy listening to this summer,” said Pioneers Owner Don Lewis.

In addition to his previous broadcasting experience, Jellinek has served as Director of Baseball Analytics and Development for Kevin Wilson Baseball. In that role, Jellinek worked extensively with sabermetrics in order to provide statistical analysis for professional baseball players, ranging from Rookie League to the Majors.

Aside from his work in sports, Jellinek is also involved in news writing and broadcasting. Currently, he is an intern with Shout Out UK!, a London based news and politics website.

Jellinek is ecstatic to join the Pioneers staff for the upcoming summer. He looks forward to the opportunity to broadcast for a team with such a rich history and a team that has a winning pedigree and culture.

“The kind of crowds that the Pioneers draw to home games was a huge reason I wanted to broadcast for the Pioneers. Knowing how much the community cares about this team only makes me more excited to serve as the Pioneers voice for the summer. The Pioneers franchise is a perfectt place for me to grow as both a broadcaster and writer. I’m excited to bring my own personal style and voice to Elmira and I know this summer will be memorable for everyone involved,” said Jellinek.
