ELMIRA, NY

As the season is almost winding down to a close, it is just about time for the PGCBL All Star Game. This year, the All Star Game takes place at Bob Belizzi Field in Albany, NY home of the Albany Dutchmen next Wednesday, July 20th at 7:05 p.m.

Your Elmira Pioneers will be well represented in the West Division All Star team. Elmira Pioneer Manager Matt Burch will coach the West All Stars. The Pioneers will also bring with him a quartet of pitchers for the All Star Team including starter Taylor Ahearn (Cal State San Marcos), relievers Stephen Arnsten (Manhattan) and Austin Hansen (Seattle U.), and closer Parker Caracci (Ole Miss).

Ahearn has a 1.50 ERA with three wins on the season. In 36 innings pitched he has struck out 29 batters. Arnsten and Hansen both have a zero ERA as they have yet to give up an earned run. They both have struck out more than 10 batters. Caracci has struck out 30 batters and has accumulated four wins, six saves and a 0.96 ERA in 19 innings pitched.

The Pioneers will also send Troy Dixon (Samford) to the All Star Team and will play at third base. Dixon has a .303 batting average with 33 hits, 15 RBI’s and has 19 runs scored.

For reserves the Pioneers have sent Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) and Rob Perteet (Samford). Both players are batting over .300 on the season and have been the focal point in the Pioneers offense. Perteet has ran in to score 20 times, racked up 36 hits and has 15 RBI’s. Plantier has 31 hits on the season, scored 13 times and has batted in 14 runs.

The high representation at the All Star Game is a reflection on how well the Pioneers have played this season. So far they have remained perfect in July and are currently carrying a seven game win streak. The Pioneers are second in the league in batting average with a .277 and are second in the league in ERA with 2.76. The Pioneers currently have a two way tie for first place in the league and in the West Division with a 22-10 record.

The Pioneers will battle for first place in the West tomorrow as they take on the Utica Blue Sox at 7:05 p.m. at Dunn Field. That game features a Demets Turtle Toss.
