Elmira Falls To Jamestown on The Road
The Pioneers fell to the Jamestown Jammers on the road 10-2 after routing the same team at the home opener. Opportune batting by the Jammers and defensive miscues by the Pioneers were the focal point of the Pioneers loss.
The starting pitcher for the Pioneers, Elliot Lance, gave up one hit in the bottom of the first to Hunter Jones of the Jammers. An error would put Jones on third and a sac fly would send him home to give the Jammers a 1-0 lead. A five run inning would follow which was plagued by errors, hits by the opposition and a frightening injury to center fielder Austin Riggins which would send him to the hospital.
Riggins would be sent to a nearby hospital to be checked on for injuries sustained in the field of play going after a catch.
The Pioneers would try to come back in the top of the third, taking advantage of a pair of walks, an error by starting Jamestown pitcher, Mike Wilcox, and a single to the left side by Rob Perteet to bring the score to 6-2.
However, that is all the offense Elmira could muster, as Jamestown would tack on four more runs by the conclusion of the game to close the game 10-2.
Elliot Lance of Elmira would take the loss, after pitching four innings, giving up eight hits on six runs, only two of those runs were earned.
Mike Wilcox will take the win, pitching five innings, striking out five batters and giving up only two hits and two runs.
Elmira will look to bounce back from this game tomorrow in an interleague matchup against the Syracuse Saltcats.
