Ninth Inning Comeback Not Enough As Jammers Snap Pioneers Win Streak To 30 Games
The first place Elmira Pioneers looked to continue their winning ways against the Jamestown Jammers. They already had a 30 game regular season home game winning streak in PGCBL play going into this contest and also looked for their eighth straight win in a row in the PGCBL.
The visitors would not make it easy for Elmira. The Jammers would capitalize on two key Pioneer errors and a key hit by Christ Conley (Canisius). The Jammers would take a 4-0 lead in the third after the third.
Elmira would get one back in the fourth as Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) hit a long double over the head of right fielder Clay Payne (Belmont). Brian Kelly (Siena) brought Plantier in with a nice bloop single to centerfield to bring the score to 4-1.
The Jammers would bring in another run off a Hunter Jones (UNC Charlotte) single making the score 5-1.
The Pioneers would look to use their ninth inning magic at home again, as Brian Kelly (Siena) would reach on an error to begin the bottom of the ninth. Connor Burns (Samford) laced a double down the first base line to score in Ty Denzer (Kansas) who pinch ran for Kelly. The bases would be loaded with Pios after a hit by pitch to Blake Buckman (U. of Louisiana of Monroe) and a pinch hit single by Phil Madonna (Siena).
However, the runners would be stranded on the bases as Danny Naif (Felician U.) would get Troy Dixon (Samford) to fly out to left field.
The Pioneers will look to rebound against the Utica Blue Sox tomorrow at Utica, NY. The Pioneers will return home on Friday, June 24th to face off against the Oneonta Outlaws. That game is Weiss Construction Mini Bat Night and also features the Junior Pioneers.
· The loss ends Elmira’s historical home game regular season winning streak in PGCBL to 30 games.
