Pioneers Shutout Pilots on the Road
It was a nice day at Colburn Park for some baseball. Elmira elected Elliot Lance to start the game and would be backed up by a solid Pioneer defense.
The pitching of Elmira was solid, giving up seven hits in total and allowing no runs in the full nine innings. The starting pitcher for the Pilots, Jacob Hendricks walked two straight batters in the top of the third. Left fielder Troy Dixon would hit a bunt single up the third base line to load the bases. The patience of Pioneers would pay off as a bases loaded walk by Joe Preziuso would put the Pioneers up 1-0.
That bats really came alive in the sixth inning as Rob Perteet reached first by an error by Hendricks. The speed of Perteet would be showcased as he would steal second, advance to third on a walk by Preziuso. With Pioneers at the corners, a double steal would allow Perteet to score and Preziuso to stand on second. As the Pilot catcher was distracted, Preziuso would advance to third. That would bring up Brian Kelly who would hit an RBI single to bring the score 3-0 in favor of the Pios.
After that, a dominant Elmira bull pen would secure the final innings of work to the eventual final score of 3-0.
Elliot Lance earns his first win of the season, giving up 5 hits and striking out one in five innings pitched while Parker Caracci earns his first save of the season with one inning pitched and striking out three batters. Pilots pitcher Jacob Hendricks takes the loss with six and 2/3 innings pitched giving up all three runs and walking five batters.
