The 2015 season had plenty of bright spots for the Pioneers including a Collegiate Baseball best 23 straight home wins. The Pioneers also led the PGCBL in attendance, averaging 3,000 fans per game. That average allowed the Pioneers to place second in overall average attendance of all Collegiate Baseball teams in the country.
The Pioneers and Head Coach Matt Burch are looking to make yet another playoff run after clinching a post-season spot each of the last three seasons. Elmira has added three players to the roster for the 2016 PGCBL season. Infielder Brett Hash joins right handed pitchers Elliot Lance and Spencer Kulman as they get set to call Historic Dunn Field home this summer.
Fans will be familiar with the addition of Kulman as he was a part of the 2014 Pioneers team. The now junior went 3-1 that season with a 2.38 ERA over the course of 37.2 innings. Kulman’s efforts that season also earned him a spot on the PGCBL All-Star team. He was a four-year letter winner at Briarcliff High School in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Head Coach Matt Burch said of Kulman, “Spencer will be a pitcher in our rotation and his collegiate experience will be welcomed on our staff. Fans in Elmira will be excited to watch him pitch this summer”.
Brett Hash hails from Glenmore, PA and will be entering his junior year with the Terriers after transferring from Hartford Community College. With the Fighting Owls, Hash batted .443 in 47 games going 66 for 149 with a team best 14 home runs and 70 RBI. He was also a perfect 10 for 10 in stolen bases. Hash played his High School ball at Downingtown West where he was named All-League each of his four years.
“Each summer our roster is very different. We look for ways to replace past players and we also look emulate talent from previous rosters; with the signing of Brett we are excited to announce that the Pioneers will have a power bat in the line-up. Brett will be a player like Christian Santisteban, he will provide a power bat that fans and teammates will immediately recognize” stated Head Coach Matt Burch.
Lance will also be going into his junior season as the Lexington, SC native looks to improve on his 5-2 record that he put together for the Terriers in 2015. Lance made 24 appearances for Wofford with 22 of them coming in relief. He totaled 45.1 innings and struck out 27 batters while walking only seven on the season. He will bring summer ball experience with him as he suited up in Hornell during the 2014 season.
Head Coach Matt Burch when asked about Lance said, “Elliot’s ability to pitch at a high level will make our team better. He comes from a program that coaches him well and the Dunn Field faithful will recognize his strike throwing ability right away”.
