ELMIRA, NY-The Elmira Pioneers took on consistent West Division rivals in the Victor Railriders Wednesday, and the game remained quiet but tense through three innings of play. Scoring finally occurred in the top of the fourth off of a Mark Cardinalli (UC Davis) double which bounced off the wall in right field. Cardinalli would come home on a fielding error from shortstop Taylor Hillson (Mansfield) on a grounder.

Elmira would answer just half an inning later after Will Larue (Xavier) was walked by Victor starter Mitch Patishall (Cincinatti). He would move over to third on a double from Justin Hayes (Old Dominion), and would come home after Rob Perteet (Samford) slammed a single to right field, tying the ball game at 1-1.

Elmira’s inning wasn’t over, however, as they would score after Christian Santisteban (Manhattan) was intentionally walked, loading the bases. Tommy Mirabelli (Kansas) would then step up and hit a single to bring Hayes home. After throwing a no-hitter through three innings, Patishall would throw two wild pitches to bring home both Perteet and Santisteban, making the score 4-1 in the Pioneers favor.

More runs would score for Elmira in the fifth, again beginning with a walk for Will Larue. Hayes would walk as well, and a wild pitch would move them both over. Perteet would hit his second RBI single of the night to bring Larue home again. Hayes came home on a single from Hayden Kelly (Florida State), as Perteet moved over to third base. Perteet would come home on sacrifice fly, and an RBI single from Brian Barefoot (Louisiana-Monroe) brought home Kelly. This made the score 8-1 Elmira.

The Pioneers extended their lead again in the sixth following another hit from Hayes. Rob Perteet worked a walk, and Santisteban stepped up for his first hit of the night for an RBI single. Kelly would hit another RBI single to bring Perteet home, giving the Pioneers a nine run lead.

Victor would answer with runs of their own in the top of the seventh after a series of walks from Garrett Schilling. Schilling walked one home and an error from Tommy Mirabelli would allow two more, making the score 10-4.

The Pioneers returned to their nine run lead just half an inning later. Hillson would walk, and after a Will Larue single would advance to second base. Hillson would come home on an error that moved Hayes to first, and Hayes would then steal second. Rob Perteet then stepped up for an RBI double to deep right field to bring home both Larue and Hayes, making the score 13-4.

Justin Lewis (Kentucky) would take the win for Elmira, giving up only 1 run in six innings of work. Losing the game for Victor would be Mitch Patishall, who gave up eight runs, all earned, during his time at the mound.
