Pios Offense Struggles in Loss to Saugerties
Saugerties, NY- Off a strong pitching performance by Anthony Rocco the Saugerties Stallions defeat the Elmira Pioneers 5-1. Rocco pitched seven innings,gave up no runs, struck out three and walked one. The left hander earned a his first win of the season.
The Pioneers offense left 8 men on base throughout the night and could only score one run on five hits. Elmira scored their only run on designated hitter, Sam Clark’s, ground ball. Clark would reach base safely on a fielder’s choice.
The Stallions scored their runs in the third, seventh and eighth innings. In the third inning after a walk by leadoff hitter Eric Downey, third baseman Dylan Sprague drilled a double to right field and brought home Downey.
In the seventh inning, left fielder Cole Clifton drove in Saugerties’ second run to score catcher John Giakas. The Stallions runs in the eighth inning came on a Pat Dorrian single to bring home Downey, a Giakas hit by pitch which brought home Sprague, and Micah Riddick walk that scored right fielder John Novenche.
The losing pitcher for Elmira was Jared Proctor. The southpaw had his second straight good outing, throwing 6 innings of 1 run ball, striking out 4 and walking one.
The Pioneers next game is tomorrow night when Utica visits Historic Dunn Field. ame time is set for 7:05 P.M. Fans 12 and under will receive the first of two free WENY-HD TV 36 bobbleheads.
