Elmira, N.Y. Starting on May 14th, Dunn field went from being the home stadium of the Elmira Pioneers to being the site of the IAC small and large school championships.

The small school championship which took place Thursday, was a matchup between the Tioga Tigers and the Trumansburg Blue Raiders with dominant pitching from junior pitcher Trevor Rumsey being the main difference maker in Trumansburgs win.

Rumsey struggled through the first couple of innings, allowing a run and three walks. After that however, the righty became dominant, fanning ten batters over the next five innings.

Dominant pitching coupled with consistent hitting from Trumansburgs lineup led them to a 7-1 win. Tioga who started hot scoring a run in the first inning, couldnt quite get the ball past the infield as many of their hits petered out or were picked up by speedy Trumansburg infielders.

The next day Thomas A. Edison took on Union Springs in the IAC large school championship, playing in what can only be described as a pitching battle. Nick Valentino from Union Springs allowed only one run in the fifth while Thomas A. Edison Pitcher Zachary Braster settled down after a shaky two run second.

Between the two teams there were only a total of seven hits, and while both teams made an effort to break open the game, Union Springs in the bottom of the fourth and T.A.E in the top of the fifth, both efforts were squandered. Thomas A. Edison did manage to drive in a run in the inning, but the effort ended up being fruitless as Union Springs took the game 2-1.

The Pioneers home opening weekend is set for Friday, June 5th VS the Adirondack Trail Blazers and Saturday, June 6th VS the Newark Pilots.
