Elmira, NY- The Elmira Pioneers are excited to announce that team Co-Owner Robbie S. Nichols has been awarded the Glove House Leadership for Children Award. Robbie was honored for his help to Glove House, Inc. at the not-for-profit organization’s annual breakfast.
Glove House, Inc. serves youth and families in crisis from ten counties in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions of New York State, operating numerous group homes and providing foster care, preventive and school based services. Glove House encourages change by reigniting hope, empowering children and families to live successfully within their neighborhoods and helping them to want to create a positive future.
Robbie and his wife, Nellie, are impactful supporters of Glove House and their efforts to help the Elmira community. The Nichols’ have been long time foster parents, and their house is currently home to six foster children. Robbie is also a mainstay at the annual holiday party, along with team mascot Stitch, bringing gifts to the children of Glove House.
The Elmira Pioneers are proud to help Glove House, and commend Robbie Nichols for his selflessness. An example of an action that demonstrates his character came earlier this winter when Nichols drove past a local bridge where a homeless man was sleeping on a cold night. Nichols stopped his car and asked the homeless man if he could take him to a shelter, in which the homeless man replied, “No thank you. I do not go to shelters.” Nichols proceeded to immediately drive home and collect food, blankets, hats, gloves, sweaters, and money and hand them to the gentleman in need. This is one of the many acts of kindness that Nichols and the Elmira Pioneers are known for.
“I am very honored to accept this award. Glove House is a great program that helps children. Thank you to Glove House along with their great staff. I would also like to thank the amazing children of Glove House for allowing me the chance to interact with them.”
