Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Pioneers are excited to announce the addition of two players from Mississippi State University. Junior catcher Josh Lovelady and freshman pitcher Andrew Mahoney will call Historic Dunn Field home for the 2015 season. The Bulldogs are coached by 7th year head coach John Cohen.
Lovelady, who hails from Prattville, Alabama is a transfer from Shelton State C.C. (AL). The 6'0" 190 lbs. right handed catcher tallied 15 RBI's despite playing half the season with his mouth wired shut after breaking his jaw. Following his sophomore season Lovelady was named a 2014 academic All-American after recording a .990 fielding percentage. During his senior year of high school he lead his team to a 42-5 record with a .380 batting average.
Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch said of Lovelady, "Josh will be counted on to catch important innings for our club this summer. His experience as a college player will really help the young pitching staff with success."
Mahoney, who hails from Daphne, Alabama is coming off of a successful high school career. Mahoney graduated in 2014 from Mcgill-Toolen Catholic where he earned All-Region 2nd Team Honors from Perfect Game. The 6'2" 210 lbs. lefty will be using his time this summer at Dunn Field wisely after suffering an injury.
"Andrew is a player coming off of an injury and will need a summer baseball playing opportunity to ensure that he can compete at a high level heading in to the fall of 2015. We are excited to add a player with his work ethic and desire to rebound from a setback, this shows his level of commitment and character." stated Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch.
The Pioneers are excited to kick off the 2015 season in style! The Pioneers have a lot of fun and exciting promotions planned for this summer at Historic Dunn Field. Opening weekend at Historic Dunn Field is slated for Friday, June 5th against the Adirondack Trail Blazers and Saturday, June 6th against the Newark Pilots; first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. both nights.
