Elmira N.Y. June 19, 2013 –
Fans your Elmira Pioneers stole a win on the road from the Albany Dutchmen. Before the trip Albany was the only undefeated team left in the PGCBL, but the Pioneers put an end to that with a 4-1 victory.
On the arm of Danny Britt (Trinity Christian), the Pioneers soared past Albany, as Britt only gave up one earned run in seven innings of pitching, striking out five Dutchmen. After the Chicago native Britt baffled Albany, the Elmira bullpen came in and both Brandon Diorio (Ithaca) and Chris Gould (Saint Rose) threw scoreless innings with a strikeout each. Chris Gould’s scoreless inning earned him his first save of the season.
The Pioneers had a three run sixth inning that they never looked back from. The First batter Frankie Navarrete (Samford) singled and was scored immediately by Colby Gee’s (Ithaca) double. Christian Knott singled down the right field line to move Gee to third. In the same inning with two outs Dave Hoffman (Siena) caused a throwing error by the first basemen that scored both Gee and Knott, putting the Pioneer total to three runs. That would be all they needed as the pitching staff only gave up a single run in the game.
The Pioneers hit the road again today to do battle with the Amsterdam Mohawks today, but will be returning home Thursday June 20th to face the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Don’t forget Thursday in RED SOLO CUP NIGHT and beer will be only two dollars. For ticketing information call 734-2690 or for more up to date information visit www.elmirapioneers.com
