Elmira N.Y. June 23, 2013 –

The Elmira Pioneers take a loss at home 10-5, in a scrappy and eventful game the Pioneers stay in second place in the Western Division. This game was filled with emotions on and off the field, as the Pioneers bench cleared and there was almost a fight on the field. Both Coach Burch and player Colby Gee (Ithaca) were ejected.

Pitching for Elmira was shaky at times giving up nine earned runs as a collective. Although the pitchers struggled, newcomer Spencer Henderson (UC Davis) came out and pitched well. Henderson gave up zero earned runs and struck out three in two innings of work.

Both teams hit the ball well as the Trail Blazers totaled twelve hits and the Pioneers tallied seven. Chris Kalousdian (Manhattan) and Christian Knott (East Stroudsburg) both had respectable games and added to their climbing RBI total.

For Adirondack, top players were Dominic Fazio (High Point) and Chris Divarco (Northern Illinois) both players had a multi-hit and two RBI game. The Trail Blazer’s pitcher Keith Ryan (Ave Maria) threw seven strong innings for a win striking out two and giving up only three earned runs.

The Pioneers will have a day off and then hit the road to face Newark on Tuesday June 25th. The Elmira Pioneers will be home again on Wednesday June 26th to face the Utica Brewers and to have a Turtle Toss brought to you by Demets. Also if you enjoyed todays thriller against the Trail Blazers Elmira will be hosting them again on the final game of the season July 31st. For ticketing information call 734-2690.
