Elmira N.Y. June 26, 2013 –
Elmira Pioneers drop one at home today in front of a huge Wednesday Night crowd of 3,549 in a close game against the Utica Brewers. Even with a two-run home-run of off the bat of Colby Gee (Ithaca) there just wasn’t enough fight from the Pioneers to pull this one out. The Pioneers fall to 7-9, but are still in good position in the Western Division.
Pitcher Dan Black (VCU) threw five innings only giving up three hits and one earned run. Unfortunately his relief couldn’t maintain the lead and he ended up with a no decision. Once again Spencer Henderson (UC Davis) came in and shut down his opposition as he scorched threw the last three innings giving up zero earned runs while striking out 4 Brewers and allowing only two hits.
The Pioneers hit the road for a short two game road trip against the Amsterdam Mohawks and Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. Don’t forget that your Elmira Pioneers will be back Saturday for the the Party Time Cowbell game, were the first 1000 kids get a free cowbell as the Pioneers take on the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. Then, Sunday the Pioneers will face the Watertown Rams at Historic Dunn Field. All children sporting their little league youth baseball jersey will be getting in free and will be on the field with the Pioneer’s players during the National Anthem. Gates open at 4pm and game starts at 5pm on Sundays. For ticketing information call 734-2690.
