Lansing Takes Home Inaugural Mansfield University Invitational Title
Elmira, NY- The inaugural Mansfield University High School Baseball Invitational was decided in the early hours on Sunday morning in front of a lively crowd at Historic Dunn Field. Over 500 fans passed through the gates to watch the day long festivities that took place between four area high schools.
The Lansing Bobcats (11-0) outlasted the Notre Dame Crusaders (8-3) in the championship game that saw the Crusaders make a valiant comeback bid that would fall just short in an 11-9 decision. The Bobcats made their way to the final game of the night with a win over Thomas A. Edison and on the other side Notre Dame knocked off Towanda.
The entire Elmira Pioneers staff would like to thank Mansfield University for sponsoring the tournament and helping to bring high school baseball back to Historic Dunn Field. The Pioneers would also like to thank all of the schools and fans that came out to the games to make the first high school tournament such a success. With the turnout and support from the community we are excited to start planning next year’s high school tournament at Dunn Field. The Pioneers are set to open up the 125th season of baseball at Dunn Field on June 3rd as the Newark Pilots pay a visit to Dunn Field with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm. Opening weekend at Dunn Field is set for June 7th and 8th as fans can stick around after the game both nights to enjoy a spectacular fireworks display!
