The bats came alive tonight as the the Elmira Pioneers put up seven runs behind the arm of Steven Klimek. Over 2768 fans showed up for weenie Wednesday at Dunn Field to watch their Pioneers s take down the Watertown Rams by a score 7-4.
The Pioneers start the game of with runs in first and second inning. Colby Gee (Ithaca) started the night with an RBI single after a Frankie Navarrate (Samford) single and stole base. In the second inning Brian Bashara (Old Dominion) singled to right center field scoring both Adrew Nist (Temple) and Chris Kalousdian (Manhattan).
Watertown didn’t go away in the third inning they cut into the lead with two runs off of two hits. Than in the fifth inning two more runs on two more hits and that was all the Ram’s could muster in this one. Top players for the Watertown Rams were Austin Lueck (University of South Florida) and Joe Maroney (University of Kansas) which three hits a piece.
In the bottom of the 5th Chris Kalousdian started of with a launched triple to deep centerfield and was later scored by Brian Bashara with a single to left. To wrap up the scoring for the Pioneers in the bottom of the sixth they had two more RBI’s from Chris Kalousdian as he doubled in both Ryan Plantier (Cornell) and Christian Knott (East Stroudsberg).
Steve Klimek (St. Bonaventure) after taking an absolute rocket off of his arm from Austin Lueck in the first inning battled his way back and pitched five strong innings. Klimek gets his first win of the season after giving up four earned runs in five innings with one strike out. Jasper Adams (Ithaca) ends the game with a close for the Pioneers as they go on to get their third win of the season.
Come celebrate the 125th season of baseball in the Twin Tiers. Your Elmira Pioneers will be right back at it tommorrow night Thursday June 13th as they take on the Amsterdam Mohawks at 7PM. Don’t forget, tomorrow is the garunteed win night at the park if the Pioneers don’t win everyone in attendance gets to come back to Friday night’s game against the Geneva Red Wings.
