Elmira, NY- The Elmira Pioneers, proud members of the PGCBL actively gearing up for the 2014 baseball season in the Twin Tiers. The Pioneers, along with Manager Matt Burch have brought in RHP/INF Hunter Swilling. Swilling will be suiting up for the Samford Bulldogs this season as a freshman.

Swilling, who hails from Columbus, Ga played his high school baseball at Columbus High School where he was a four year standout for the program. The 6’0” 185 pound righty was a highly anticipated signing for the Bulldogs as he committed after his junior season of high school that ended with a State Championship title.

When asked about what Swilling will bring to the field this summer for the Pioneers, Manager Matt Burch stated “Hunter will be an impact player for the 2014 Elmira Pioneers. He was a highly recruited player out of high school and should see a lot of playing time this Spring at Samford. In the summer of 2014, fans can expect to see Swilling as a two-way contributor both on the mound and in the middle infield.”

Samford Head Coach Casey Dunn said of the incoming freshman, “"Hunter is another state champion coming into our program. He was the only junior to start during Columbus’ championship run and was a great leader for their program. I look for Hunter to be an end of the game guy for us on the mound as well as adding versatility to our team in the field.”

While at Samford, Swilling will suit up with former Pioneers teammates Parker Curry and Frank Navarrete. Both Curry and Navarrete played big parts in helping the 2013 squad clinch the Western Division title and making a run to the PGCBL Championship. The Pioneers would fall just short of being crowned champs as they fell in game 3 of a hard fought series against the Amsterdam Mohawks.

Season tickets for the 2014 are on sale and the Pioneers are poised to continue packing Historic Dunn Field after finishing third in the nation for total attendance during the 2013 season. Fans can experience the fun and excitement with their friends and family for just $99.
