Elmira N.Y. July 2, 2013 –
The Pioneers shoot down the Newark Pilots as they cruise to a 7-2 victory. The win comes behind the arm of Tommy Alexander (Old Dominion), now 2-1 and the live bats of the Pioneers. The Monarch, Alexander threw six innings striking out four and only giving up two earned runs.
The games started of hot with a Solo shot from Christian Knott (East Stroudsberg) off the first pitch he’s seen since his last game. Knott not losing a stride has a multi-hit game to help lead the Pioneers to another home win over the Pilots, who are now on a six game losing streak.
Another highlight of the game was the stellar performance from Dave Hoffman (Siena) who turned nineteen today and celebrated with two hits and three RBI’s to help the Pioneers to this much needed win.
The bullpen for Elmira stepped-up big as they showcased some big arms and gave up zero runs to close out the games. One inning each from newcomer Victor Diaz (Old Dominion), Chris Gould (Saint Rose), and Parker Curry (Stamford) shut down the spiraling Pilots. The Pioneers hit the road for a double-header tomorrow in Cooperstown. Don’t worry they will be back in action Thursday as they take on the Niagara Power on July 4th during FREE MINI-BAT night brought to you by Elm Chevrolet. For ticketing information call 734-2690.
