Pioneers Split Double-Header With Watertown Rams

Ladies and Gentleman, your Elmira Pioneers season is winding down and the race for the playoffs has begun. The Pioneers had a crucial double-header against the Eastern Division leaders Watertown Rams on Tuesday.
In the first game of the scheduled two seven inning games the Pioneers won 4-2 behind the great pitching performance from the UC Davis Aggie Spencer Henderson. He threw a complete game in the shortened seven inning bout, and only gave up two earned runs and tallied three strikeouts.
Elmira put up two runs in the first and two more in the sixth to beat the Rams. Chris Kalousdian (Manhattan) started the game of with a single and the reliable Parker Curry bunted and on an error by pitcher Jake Jenkins (Pacific) made it all the way to third while also scoring Kalousdian. Curry than scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Christian Knott (East Stroudsberg).
In the sixth, the Pioneers found some more offense after a Ryan Plantier (Cornell) double and a Brian Bashara (Old Dominion) blasts a Two-Run Homerun.
The second game was a different story for the Pioneers as they pitched this game by committee and did all of their work in the first inning. Brandon Diorio (Ithaca) started the game and threw two innings giving up no runs. Newcomers Jim Tunison (Misericordia) and Zach Bican (Pitt Bradford) pitched the third and the fourth inning and the Rams put up three runs against them. Anthony Ciango (Northern Illinois came in to pitch the fifth inning but was unable to get the hold and gave up three runs, which would send him home with the loss.
In the first inning the Pioneers put up three runs off of a Ryan Plantier (Cornell) Three-Run Homerun, but were unable to hold off the Rams and he Pioneers went home with a split as they lost the second game 7-3.
The Pioneers have a home game today against the Amsterdam Mohawks and it will be day two of the Trading Card give-a-way. Come on out fans if you want to get your second stack of cards in the three game card give-a-way. Friday July 26th will be another home game for the Pioneers and there will be FIREWORKS, FIREWORKS, and more FIREWORKS… So come on out and enjoy the final Fireworks Extravaganza this season with the Elmira Pioneers as they do battle with the Albany Dutchmen.
