Pioneers Announce Home Dates for the 2014 Season
The Elmira Pioneers in conjunction with the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League announced its 2014 schedule today. Each team will play a 48 game regular season, pitting the winners of the two divisions in a best of three championship series.
"We really put an emphasis on creating geographic rivalries. Fans travel with their hometown clubs and the intensity on the field swells to match the fans passion in the stands." commented PGCBL President Jeff Kunion. "Our fan base was very supportive of our expanded playoffs last year and we will keep the same format in 2014. It was important to our players that they have a chance to win a championship and the extra, winner take all play-in game gives teams a chance to do just that."
The 2014 regular season begins on June 4 and concludes on July 30. Playoffs begin on July 31 with a winner-take-all contest between the second and third place teams in each division. The best of three Division Championship Series follow. The season then concludes with the best of three PGCBL Championship Series.
The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game USA, the largest independent scouting service in the country. In 2013, more than 1,300 professional players had either worn the uniform of a PGCBL team or participated in a Perfect Game event.
