Elmira, NY- Opening Day for the Pioneers is less than a month away, but Dunn Field has been very active this spring. Last month the Pioneers and Dunn Field hosted four area high schools in the 2nd Annual Elmira Pioneers High School Invitational Tournament. Dunn Field will now have the opportunity to crown another champion as the IAC will host both the large school and small school playoff games on Wednesday May 14th & Thursday May 15th.
The IAC tournament will kick off on Wednesday May 14th with the large schools. Thomas A. Edison (15-2, 12-2) will take the diamond against Dryden (11-6, 9-1). It will be the second tournament for the Spartans at Dunn Field as TAE captured the 2nd Annual Elmira Pioneers High School Invitational trophy. The Purple Lions, ranked 9th in New York will look to get back to their winning ways after dropping two games in a row. First pitch is set 7:00 PM with gates opening at 6:30 p.m.
The small schools will take over Dunn Field on Thursday May 15th as Tioga (12-1, 11-1) will square off against Union Springs (14-5, 8-2). Tioga has just one loss to their credit this season as they look to hoist the trophy against Union Springs who will be making their Dunn Field debut. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. with gates to open at 5:30 p.m.
Admission for both of the games will be $5.00 per person. Fans are reminded that no outside food or drink will be permitted through the gates at Dunn Field. While attending the games fans will be able to purchase a full slate of food, drinks and snacks from the Pioneers concession stand.
The IAC baseball tournament will showcase some of the best youth talent the Twin Tiers has to offer. For more information on the tournament contact the Pioneers front office by calling 607-734-2690.
