Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Pioneers are proud to announce the date and times for the 2nd annual high school tournament to be held at Historic Dunn Field. The event was a huge success in its inaugural showing with over 500 fans passing through the gates to watch four area high schools battle for the championship trophy. The tournament is set to take place on Saturday, April 19th 2014; in case of inclement weather the tournament will take place on Saturday, April 26th 2014.

Last year The Lansing Bobcats (11-0) outlasted the Notre Dame Crusaders (8-3) in the championship game that saw the Crusaders make a valiant comeback bid. That bid would fall just short for the Crusaders under the bright lights of Dunn Field (11-9) in what would turn out to be a marathon that came right down to the wire.

The local ownership group for the Elmira Pioneers started this annual tournament last year at Historic Dunn Field to bring another great summer event to the Historic Ball Park. Pioneers Co-Owner Don Lewis said of the event, "we wanted to do something to get the community more involved at Dunn Field and we knew that high school baseball was popular in the area. Last years tournament was a huge success and we look forward to these four teams competing again for the championship trophy". Pioneers Co-Owner Robbie Nichols also stated, "The high school tournament is another event that is going to help start off a long but active summer season for the ownership group and Dunn Field".

All games this year will feature a 10 run mercy rule that will go into effect after the 5th inning. There will also be a coin toss prior to each game to determine the home team. The tournament will also feature a speed up rule for pitchers and catchers when they reach base. Teams will be able to use any player that has yet to be legally entered into the game to run for the pitcher and/or catcher.

Admission for the tournament is $5.00 per person. No outside food or drink will be permitted through the gates at Dunn Field. There will be limited concessions available for fans during the tournament. Both head-to-head match-ups along with the championship game will be held at Dunn Field and the consolation game will be held at Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights.
